Bio

Alessandro Prandi is an Italian violist with a career in orchestral, chamber, and solo performance also in the dual role of violist and pianist. His journey has led him to collaborate with some of the greatest musicians on the international scene, including Salvatore Accardo, Sergey Malov, Martha Argerich, Tabea Zimmermann, Victor Derevianko, Louis Lortie, Albrecht Mayer, Danusha Waskiewicz, Les Vents Français, and the Stradivari Quartet.

Since 2019, he is Principal Viola and Artistic Advisor of the Collegium Musicum Lugano. From 2020 to 2023, he has been regularly invited to projects of the Mahler JugendOrchester, and since 2023, he is part of the Utopia Orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis.

Over the years, he has collaborated with prestigious orchestras and ensembles, including MusicaEterna, the OSI – Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the European Classical Orchestra and the Lacmus Festival Orchestra. He has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in Europe, including the Berliner Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Isarphilharmonie Munich, the Tonhalle Zürich, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Among his achievements, he has won the First Prize and the Best Viola Award at the International Crescendo Competition in Florence, as well as scholarships from the Lyra Stiftung, the Geert und Lore Blanken-Schlemper-Stiftung, Raltoz-Stiftung, the Melinda Esterházy de Galantha Stiftung, and the Bruno Schuler Stiftung.

His musical education is the result of years of study at important institutions such as the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste under the guidance of Lawrence Power and the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana with Yuval Gotlibovich.

In addition to his Artist Diploma at the Stauffer Center for Strings with Bruno Giuranna from 2019 to 2022, he was awarded scholarships and merit diplomas at the masterclasses of the Accademia Chigiana from 2020 to 2024, studying with Bruno Giuranna and later with Tabea Zimmermann.

His academic background includes, besides a Viola Diploma with Honors and Special Mention from the Conservatorio A. Pedrollo in Vicenza, a Violin and a Piano Diploma, both with Honors, from the Conservatorio Lucio Campiani in Mantua.

Beyond his institutional studies, he has enriched his training with masterclasses from renowned musicians such as Tabea Zimmermann, Gilad Karni, Lech Uszynski, Simone Briatore and Klaidi Sahatçi, as well as courses in composition and conducting.
